Hi!
The Mannheim in Contrast series started when I took some pictures of Mannheim and applied different kinds of effects and tried several types of editing those pictures to reflect the lifestyle and feeling in Mannheim.
A few of those pictures are now available on flickr. Go to my photostream and check out the Mannheim in Contrast Set which will be updated with more pictures in the future.

Strobist.com - Lighting with the flash off camera
So, this is something with lighting...and with the flash off the camera. And there is also something about links in here.
How come I write this post? This is because I came across the Strobist Blog of David Hobby. You can find that on http://www.strobist.com. I also put a permanent link in the sidebar and you can get to the blog by clicking the image.
David Hobby uses this blog to show his techniques, gives information, shares links and more. What is really cool about this site is, that it features a kind of training course - totally for free. It is called Lighting 101 (and some follow ups) where everything is explained about lighting your images with the flash off camera.
So - what is so neat about that? I think the pictures speak for theirselves. Find some examples in the official Strobist Flickr Group.
In Lighting 101 you will find all the information on the equipment you might need and get all the basics for a first start. I got that myself and am currently testing this a lot and will post some pictures of myself in the next days.
Make sure you stop by there and learn something. This is not only for the pros, but also for the beginners. Have fun and enjoy the site. There is plenty of stuff to read there.

My Gear
Hi there,
with this post I would like to introduce my gear - meaning what am I using to take my photos. Not only camera, but also little helpers like tripod, ball-head and flashes.
First of all - I shoot with Nikon. I own my digital SLR Nikon D50 since the beginning of 2006 and haven't changed until now. I think I will stick to this great camera, because it suits well - hmm, at least in most of the situations. Sometimes I miss some small functions and a little more speed, but as I said - it works great. But if anyone has to give away a free Nikon D300 - just mail me, you are welcome ;-).

On the left you can see a picture of the camera. The lens mounted is the Nikkor 18-55 standard kit zoom lens. I have been using it since I started and still use it. This is because, this lens performs reasonably fine as a standard kit lens and I am really satisfied with it. Of course it is not as sharp as others (e.g. 17-55mm 2.8)...but that doesn't matter that much for now. Regarding the performance of the kit lens there is a very good review on photozone.
Some more details on the Nikon D50 maybe:

As additional lense I use the kit tele-zoom 55-200mm (see picture) in the first version (non-VR) which is always a bit too short - I plan to update here during the next month (either a 300mm zoom lens or a 70-200mm 2.8).
An other support lens, which in my opinion is very stunning for the price and belongs in every photo bag is the Nikkor AF 50mm 1.8D. This lens is great for available light photography and also for portrait shots.
The rest of my stuff is listed below and I consider all pieces as sufficient for my purposes. The quality is mostly exceptional from my point of view.
Regards,
Hannes

Some more details on the Nikon D50 maybe:
- 6.1 mega pixel DX sensor (1.5 crop factor)
- 2.5 images a second (raw-format)
- all the usual stuff of course - for more details please see the Nikon page

- Bag: LowePro Sling Shot 200AW
- Flash: Nikon SB-800 (absolutely great and flexible, great additional stuff in the box, when delivered)
- ML-3 infrared trigger
- Manfrotto 680B Monopod
- No-Name Aluminium Tripod
- Manfrotto 486RC Ball Head
- several batteries for camera and flash (eneloops work great for the flash)
- several GBs of SD-Cards
- Buffalo Link Station Pro Duo 500 GB Raid 1 to store my photos

Welcome - What is this Blog about?
Hello everybody & welcome to HANNES KERBER PHOTOGRAPHY!
This is my blog regarding photography, where I post new images, techniques, infos, links to interesting and cool sites. Nearly everything will be related to photography here - directly or indirectly ;-).
On the picture you can see me at work ;-). So, not really at work but at least taking some pictures in Mannheim/Germany (that's where I am currently living).
With this blog I also want show you my photos and how and where I took them. Any comments will be appreciated! Of course I will tell you something about my photography-related projects - if there are any ;-).
Additionally this blog can be seen as follow up of my previous blog, which I had to close because of excessive spamming (unfortunately). But this blog starts out brand new...and I will try to provide you with lots of useful information regarding photography, share my ideas and also the ideas of others I like.
In the sidebar I put some links (and will update them) which might be useful to you. E.g. my flickr photostream is put there and some more will follow.
So, enjoy reading my blog, watching my fotos - and leave some comments ;-).
Regards,
Hannes
BTW: I nearly forgot...also check out my website where you find some galleries and some more information on me and my work. It can be found here: www.kerberonline.de
